Countries in the World 2023:- There are currently 195 nations in the world. This number includes 193 nations that are United Nations members and 2 nations that are non-member observer states: the State of Palestine and the Holy See.
This total of Countries in the World 2023 195 countries does not include the following:
  • The People’s Republic of China is considered to be Taiwan’s representative by the United Nations.
  • The Cook Islands and Niue, both states in free association with New Zealand, are neither member states nor non-member observer states of the United Nations. However, they are both members of a number of UN specialized agencies and have been acknowledged as having “full treaty-making capacity.”
  • Areas of Special Sovereignty, also known as dependent territories, dependent areas, and dependencies
  • Other nations that the United Nations has acknowledged are not self-governing
