His followers hold the belief that he attained enlightenment, or nirvana, at the age of 72. Mahavira’s birth is commemorated on Mahavir Jayanti.

• Karnataka’s Saavira Kambada Basadi: King Devaraya Wodeyar of Vijayanagara constructed this temple in the 15th century. The sanctuary is exceptionally famous due to the presence of 1000 points of support. It is in the town of Moodabidri, which has about 18 shrines. The most well-known and most beautiful of these 18 Jain temples is the Saavira Kambada Basadi temple. Mangalore is approximately 30 kilometers away from the complex, and Bangalore (Bengaluru) is 350 kilometers away.

• Odisha’s Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves: These caverns are viewed as one of the world’s most seasoned Jain show-stoppers, with many stone-cut sculptures and engravings. It is approximately 10 kilometers away from Bhubaneswar, the capital city. There are a total of 33 caves, with 15 in Khandagiri and 18 in Udayagiri.

• Temples at Ranakpur in Rajasthan: The Ranakpur temple, which is regarded as one of the largest and most impressive Jain temples, is an exceptional work of art that features intricate artwork, 80 domes, 24 pillared halls, and approximately 400 columns. It took approximately 65 years to construct and was constructed in the 15th century. The temple is a great place to spend Mahavir Jayanti because it is only 95 kilometers from Udaipur.
